We have put together a video highlighting some of the precious sea life that will be protected through Marine Conservation Zones.
The UK has one of the world’s richest marine environments and these new sites will join over 500 marine protected areas that already exist to ensure it stays that way.

I cannot believe you are publicising this as though you have done a good job. The designations fall hugely short of what is necessary to stand any chance of our marine life recovering from the decades of abuse. This is a total failure and to show seahorses in your video after not protecting them at Studland is an enormous editorial blunder. This is adding insult to injury. Unbelievable!

Hi Andy, these MCZs will safeguard a wide range of sea life, from seahorses to oyster beds. After carefully considering all the evidence, and listening to the views of those who care about our seas, we have decided to designate the 27 sites that are most suitable for designation now. However, this isn’t the total sum of our ambitions - over the next three years we will be consulting on further sites for designation in the next phases.
